It has been a few years since I have been to the festival, but I still remember all the times I have gone. I remember the beautiful headpiece with ribbons flowing down my back. I still have the pictures where my dad was the king, my mom the queen and I the princess. I remember the huge turkey legs. Loved it!
Don't try to fit everything into one visit ... you simply can't! Instead, visit the The Colorado Renaissance Festival website, especially the Entertainment and Themed Weekends pages, so you can choose the shows that are on your "must see" list. When you arrive, you'll receive a program which includes a Festival Map with all the times and locations of the various shows to help you plan your day. Bring sunscreen and a spray bottle so you can mist yourself as needed throughout the day. There are water fountains near the privies (bathrooms) so you can refill your misting bottle.
Here is some of what you can expect to see:
- The Joust: The Joust is the highlight of the festival! The three-act production includes a Tournament of Skill, a Tournament of Arms, and Trial by Combat! Cheer for your Knight and his Noble Steed!
- Entertainment: Seven stages feature a vast array of entertainment including a hypnotist, a sword-swallower, a master escape artist, jugglers, acrobats, comedians, and more!
- Music: Cast in Bronze makes magical music with Carillon bells weighing more than 4 tons and is our personal favorite. All of the other musicians are quite lovely too, from a Celtic guitarist to a medieval a Capella band.
- Artisans: Shop for hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind items from more than 200 artisans. You'll find authentic clothing (wanna be a pirate? a princess? a gypsy?), hand-blown glass wind chimes, pewter chess sets, toe rings, and just about everything else you can imagine.
- Food: Steak on a Stake, roasted corn, fruit cobbler, strawberry ice, artichokes, and "ye olde roasted turkey legges" are just a few of our favorite items. There are literally hundreds of choices, from fudge to pizza to smoothies.
- Rides: Yes, medieval times had amusement park rides ... enjoy the King's Swing, elephant and camel rides, and the World's Largest Rocking Horse.
- Just for kids: As if the entertainment, food, and rides weren't enough, the Renaissance Festival even has a Children's Realm with a free petting zoo and butterfly ride, just the right size for little ones.
