Kids Eat Frugally, or FREE!

In an effort to keep this newsletter from being EXTREMELY lengthy, and to help you decide where to find places to eat by telling you where kids eat free (or at least cheap), I have decided to put this in a weekly article rather than separate events. This is a work-in-progress and as it goes on, I will make it more user-friendly, including icons to determine whether or not it is free. Please let me know about your favorite kid-frugal restaurant!! Please also note that these change often, so be ...

Mordecai Children's Garden at the Botanic Gardens

This new garden offers a place to play, explore and discover. Because the natural environment constantly changes, no two visits in this magical 3-acre oasis will be alike.

  • Build forts
  • Watch bees pollinate flowers
  • Create daisy chains and leaf hats
  • Observe the life cycle of a plant over time

bread we sprinkled on the back patio for them.  Among the normal group of birds we spotted an interesting looking bird with a tail that stood straight up.  I quickly reached for the bird identification book.  This sent Allie searching for her own science reader book about birds and so we sat down and began our ...

Geocaching is treasure hunting for GPS users. Okay, so treasure hunting might be a bit of an overstatement, since the treasures are trinkets left by like-minded adventurers rather than ancient Spanish coins, but the fun is in the journey, and isn't that a lesson worth learning?

So, if your kids balk at the thought of an afternoon hike, this is the perfect way to entice them.  Go online to www.geocaching.comand enter your zip code.  The site will list all the "caching" locations in your area.  Take your ...
