Soda Pop Bottle Piggy!

By Vicki Little April 21, 2010

Looking for a simple and fun activity to do with your little ones? Try this soda pop piggy, which can easily be turned into a piggy bank by slitting a hole in the top!

Materials:
  • 2-liter soda bottle
  • scissors
  • any button
  • three empty toilet paper rolls
  • pink pipe cleaner
  • pink tissue paper
  • 2 googly eyes
  • pink paint
  • 2 paintbrush: I like to use the foam brushes for these kind of things.
  • Tacky glue
  • mod podge-You can make your own with tacky glue, simply mix together equal parts of water and white craft glue, such as Tacky Glue. Mixture should be milky and a little thick, not too runny.
Directions:
  1. Take the plastic label off the soda bottle, make sure it is clean and dry and leave the cap on.
  2. Cut two of the toilet paper rolls in half. Cut about1" off the other roll.
  3. Take the 1" piece and cut each side so it is in two parts.
  4. Put the two halves on top of one another and cut equal ears.
  5. Cut a slit in the bottom of each ear, vertically
  6. Paint both sides of the ears, and the outside of the 4 tubes, pink. Set aside to dry
  7. Cut the 8 pieces of tissue paper. Doesn't matter shape or size, just not too small or too big.
  8. Swipe a side of the bottle with Mod Podge and cover with pieces of tissue paper. Continue around the bottle swiping both under and over the paper with the glue (basically you are doing paper mache)Leave one or two pieces of tissue paper aside.
  9. Continue with two or three layers, covering the bottle completely, including cap and bottom of bottle.
  10. Set aside to dry.
  11. When dry, tacky glue the button to the lid of the bottle for the nose.
  12. Twirl the pipe cleaner into a spring shape, with one end having about 1/2 inch straight.
  13. Tacky Glue onto bottom of bottle. Mod Podge the last two pieces of tissue paper over where you glued the tail on, but leave the spring side out.
  14. Cut eight even slits on one side of each toilet paper roll and push the flaps up.
  15. Put tacky glue on the flaps and glue the rolls on the bottom of the pig evenly for the legs, use the tabs to help make the legs flat.
  16. Push the tabs of the ears back and glue on the head
  17. Glue two eyes under the ears and above the nose.
  18. If you want, you can even use an X-acto knife to make it a piggy bank by simply cutting a little rectangle on top!
