I had ideas for what I wanted to write about in this opening article this week, but after what happened today all of them have disappeared. All I can think about is yet another shooting, yet another school, yet another group of parents and families who will never again see the smile of someone they love so very much. They will never get another hug, never see dreams fulfilled, and never again get to say "I love you" and hear it back. So many lives cut short, lives that were filled with hopes and dreams. Another absolutely senseless tragedy, another incident that deepens the black hole of fear that lives in our hearts. There are no explanations that will comfort those who lost people they love so dearly, there are no actions that can be taken that will bring those young lives back, and there are not enough words to heal our increasingly broken hopes. Each of us can only put love out in a world where hatred tries to push through, we can only raise our children to help instead of hurt, we can only try to overcome evil with acts of kindness.
So this week all I can say is just love. Love, listen and try to understand others. You never know when that hug you give will be your last.
