I am living in a state of denial. I refuse to think about what craziness the colder months and my new schedule of nonstop driving and early mornings will bring me. I am just going to happily pretend that there will never be a day with a traffic accident or snow delays. At least while it is still over 90 degrees out and the furthest I have to drive on a daily basis is the grocery store.

But I can't deny that my baby girl is about to start first grade next week. This seems just absolutely impossible to me! Summer was less than a blink of an eye. It was ridiculously short. And she is my baby. My baby who will be going off to her own school without her brother this year. Who is going to watch over her? Tell on her when she does something wrong (this is laughable because she is my rule-follower but you get my drift). We are both having mixed feelings. We really like the school, we absolutely adore all of the staff members we have met so far, and everyone we have talked to has nothing but wonderful things to say about it. But still. She will be in school ALL DAY. BY HERSELF! How am I going to let my baby girl go?

In the meantime, I will have to distract myself before I become a mess of tears. Feel free to borrow from my list to get organized and avoid the inevitable!

*Organize last years schoolwork (to do this I take pictures to put into a book and then recycle most of it and saving the most precious items!)

*Do meal planning for August (including preparing a week or two of frozen meals).

*Organize my calendar by putting all the school events, activities etc. on it and resetting alarms.

*Get labels on all of the school items, shoes and coats that are bound to end up in the lost and found bin.

*Get my "snack" and "lunch" baskets organized and filled for ease in packing lunches and grabbing snacks.

*Replenish the hot lunch fund.

*Put the finishing touches on my teacher "first week survival" kits.

*Prepare some lunch note jokes (with my new wake-up time there is NO way I am going to be thinking clearly before we leave!)

*Clean the car, inside and out. Really well. Scratch that, have husband clean the car really well inside and out.

And now I am off to finish that list. Or simply look at it while I contemplate stopping the "no cocktails while trying to lose weight" rule. At least until we are through the first month of school.

Relish in every moment left of summer and have a great week!
