Colorado Ballet Opens 2024/2025 Season with Sleeping Beauty

Ellie Opera House, Oct. 4–13, 2024

September 6, 2024

Colorado Ballet will welcome patrons back to the Ellie Caulkins Opera House for the start of its 2024/2025 Season with eight performances of Sleeping Beauty, October 4–13.

Based on the iconic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty is a classical masterpiece created by legendary choreographer Marius Petipa and composer Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Perfect for audiences of all ages, Colorado Ballet’s production promises a captivating experience filled with enchanting storytelling, exquisite choreography, breathtaking sets and costumes, and live music performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

Sleeping Beauty is one of the most beloved ballets performed today,” stated Artistic Director Gil Boggs. “It’s a timeless work that seamlessly blends classical technique and Tchaikovsky’s rich score with an approachable and engaging storyline—and perhaps just a touch of magic. There are so many mesmerizing and memorable moments in Sleeping Beauty, from the famous Rose Adagio in Act I to the grand pas de deux in Act III. It’s an unforgettable ballet that audiences won’t want to miss.”

Sleeping Beauty follows the story of Princess Aurora, a beautiful young royal who falls under the spell of a wicked fairy on her 16th birthday. The curse plunges Aurora and her entire kingdom into a deep slumber lasting 100 years, with only true love’s kiss capable of breaking the spell. Guided by the benevolent Lilac Fairy, Prince Desiré embarks on a daring quest to find and awaken the sleeping princess. The fateful kiss brings joy and celebration, culminating in a grand wedding—complete with special guests from other beloved fairy tales—that marks the triumph of love over evil.
