Sometimes we allow our lives to get a little too busy chasing our dreams, running kids to all the different activities or simply doing chores at home that we don't make time for lunch with a loved one or enjoy the moment of hearing the stories of what used to be. I am guilty of this and as I get older, I try to soak up the moments with loved ones, take a moment to catch my breath and live in the moment. This used to be extremely hard for me as I felt like if I stopped I wouldn't get everything done and I would lose time. Somewhere along the line I embraced what used to be uncomfortable moments and listened to the stories, enjoying the time with that loved one.
Not too long ago my father had recently lost his brother and in our time together he mentioned that something he would like before he passed was to go to Las Vegas with me and simply spend time together. Without hesitation, we planned a trip and went to Las Vegas just the two of us. Let me just say that was the best decision.
My father is in his 70s and has a bum knee, however, when we got to our hotel and he hit that casino floor it was as though he had magic legs. I could barely keep up with this man. The first night we were there we gambled and enjoyed ourselves, as an adult I had never seen my dad so free of worry and truly enjoying himself. We both came up with our happy dances when we won on the slot machines. It was a weekend to remember.
Taking this time without hesitation was a blessing of time with a loved one to make the memories, listen to the stories, and simply make the time for the ones we love.
