Easy to Make Face Masks

Kid Approved

By DeAnna Biltoft (Gregory) April 1, 2020

Gregory wants to share how EASY it is to make your own masks at home- in only 5 minutes! No, they aren’t medical grade, but they’ll cover your mouth and nose if you need to leave the house to get groceries, gas, or takeout. They’re perfect protection for quick trips and they’re simple to make with a few materials. We can make one mask in five minutes, now that we’ve got it down! You can make different sizes by adding more or less fabric to your first cut.

Step 1-6: Gather materials. Use a bandanna to measure and cut your fabric into a large square- any fabric will do. Fold your big square in half, then open it back up and cut down the middle. You now have two rectangles.

Step 7-12: Fold your rectangle in half. Use the iron to flatten the fold. Open it back up. Fold the bottom up to the middle crease and the top down to the middle crease.

Step 13-18: Use the iron the flatten your new folds. Take 2 hair ties and put one around each end. Fold each fabric end over the hair tie, toward the middle. Open one end to make a little pocket and tuck the other end inside. Hold it tight!

Step 19-24: Sew a straight line to secure each fabric end together. The hair ties will be on each end, with a sewn line on the inside. You’re done! Wrap the hair ties around your ears and you have a mask! The double-sided feature allows extra protection and you can pull the inside piece down over your chin if you want it to be wider.
