Have you ever noticed that you tend to label your kids? Not in a bad way, and not that we even intend to, but you may find yourself saying things like "he is the athlete" or "she is the cuddly one". Well, my son is my wonderfully challenging one. And everyone who knows him is aware that his bright little mind works differently. You have to be on your toes and not assume that what seems to be actually is. For example, my son put some light brights in a bag and told me to guess how many there were. I guessed 60. He said not even close. So, I figured he must have been having each one represent a set number, because really, I couldn't believe there was more than 60.  My niece guessed 7 because he probably meant the number of colors (again knowing what you see is not what you get with my son). This one time he actually did have a full 100 in his bag and he was counting in a regular old way (is anyone else at the 100th day of school?)

But the point is that my son has a wonderful way of looking at things differently. And he does it in all areas of life. His way actually seems harder to me quite often, but to him it seems more interesting. So instead of waving away the crazy ways he thinks, I embrace them as fun and interesting as well. I try to look at problems through his eyes to see if I can find a different solution. And most of all, I try to stop and realize that just because I think I know why he is happy or mad or sad, I probably don't. But I bet I will hear an interesting story if I ask!

This week I hope you have a wonderful and unusual way of looking at things!
