Happy Father's Day!

By Vicki Little June 15, 2011

Father's Day may simply be a "Hallmark" holiday, but to me it is the reminder of how lucky I am to have gotten a second chance at knowing how important a dad is. Through the years, I have had three dads. The first left me long ago. The second was actually my mom, who took over the role of mom and dad in many vital years that I needed both. She taught me everything a mom should, and was there in all the times a dad should have been. She tried her hardest to fill a hole in my heart, and she did a pretty good job. And then finally, my own version of a knight in shining armor came into my life. His name is Tim. And he is my dad.

He was there to wipe tears, give bear hugs and lift me off the ground, show me how I am supposed to be treated by men, show me how a wife is supposed to be treated by being wonderful to my mom, and being everything a dad should be....and more.

And what is more, he finally gave me "the man to marry". He helped me learn what I wanted in a person that I was going to spend the rest of my life with. And now my children have their own dad that wipes their tears and gives bear hugs. My own children have a dad that shows them how people are supposed to be treated by treating me well. My own children have a dad that is everything one should be...and more.

Happy Father's Day to all of you Dad's, in all of the different forms you may take. Though you may not always hear it from those that love you, you are needed and appreciated in ways you may never understand.
