Celebrate National Hot Dog Month/Day!

Make a Cheese-stuffed, Bacon-wrapped Dog

By Meg Brunson July 12, 2016
July is National Hot Dog Month. Celebrate all month long or plan a big party on July 20th, National Hot Dog Day. It will definitely be a celebration when you serve cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped hot dogs. They are not only easy to make, but also delicious!

What you need:
  • Hot dogs
  • Cheese of your choice (one slice per hot dog)
  • Toothpicks (3 per hot dog)
  • Bacon (2 strips per hot dog)
What you do:

STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees

STEP 2: Slice the hot dog down the middle, but not all the way through.  You want to make a "pocket."

STEP 3:  Stuff strips of a cheese slice into the hot dog.  If you have extra cheese, you can choose to top your hot dog with it after it cooks.

STEP 4: Take one piece of bacon, and starting at one end, wrap it around the hot dog - ending in the middle. Use a toothpick to secure the bacon through the hot dog at each end. Then take your second piece of bacon and wrap it on the same hot dog, starting at the other end. When you get to the center, remove the toothpick and use it to hold the ends of both bacon slices.

STEP 5:  Place the hot dogs on a foil-lined baking sheet and cook for 30-40 minutes, flipping 1-2 times (I usually turn at 15 minutes and then, if they need more time, at 30 minutes I flip them again).

STEP 6: Serve on a roll and with your preferred condiments!

It’s summer eating at its finest!
