I have been thinking a a lot this week about the effects that people can have on other people. The decisions we make, the actions we take, can have a butterfly effect that reaches much further than we realize, and it can last a lot longer than expected. The majority of the time we try to live our own lives without hurting others. Often we even try to make other peoples lives better. All too often, though, we do run across people who don't seem to care about how they affect others. And worse, there are people who try to hurt others-such as the incident in Virginia this morning.

I try not to get angry. I do what I need to do for my family and friends. I avoid situations that are not good for us, I remove my children from places that are not safe for them and people that don't have their best interests at heart. But still, sometimes damage has already been done. So we just regroup and go from there.

But it is frustrating, and sometimes painful, that we live in a society that seems to care less and less about one another. Shootings used to be shocking, now they are more common. People in leadership positions used to try to do what was best for the majority. Now they too often seem to be acting according to their own agenda. Youth didn't expect things to be handed to them, now the term "entitled" is often used to explain today's youth.

So what do we do? I wish I had an answer that would work, but unfortunately I have realized that life isn't always fair. All you can do is stand up for what you know is right, fight against injustices, and make your situation better in any way you can. Don't give up and don't give in.

Have a wonderful and safe week. Do something to make someone smile!
