What you’ll need…

  • Several different colored sheets of foam (you’ll definitely want green for the stem & leaves)
  • Puffy paint or a thin Sharpie (something that will write on the foam…regular markers will only run)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue
  • Pencil
  • Favorite photo of your kiddos (you could also use one of them with grandma, or whoever the recipient of the flower is going to be). 
  • Scissors
  • Little hands for tracing
  • Paint stirrer (you can get these for free at any paint store or Home Depot or Lowes)

You may have noticed that sprinkled through the newsletters you will often see some fun activities that occur at the Plains Conservation Center. They have a surprising amount of activities actually. They currently have new chicks in for the kids to see and squeal over, they have opportunities to feed the cows, there are moonlit walks, nature hikes and sketching, flower identifying…..the list really does seem endless. This summer, they even have Day Camps to keep your children busy and out in the fresh air and sunshine!

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado's Race for Wishes 5K and Family Fun Run. The 5K is a chip-timed official USATF certified course. The family fun run/walk covers one mile. The races start at 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m., respectively. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers, as well as the top three masters (40+), and top fundraisers. Other race activities include live music, food, and family entertainment such as games, magic demonstrations, balloon twisters, clowns and face painters.

A few days ago a special package arrived at our doorstep. It was a cardboard mailer with stamped pictures of adorable creatures called ScrapKins and several recycling symbols. One of the symbols caught my eye. Above it, the words read “Eat more cereal.” By now I had realized that this was the review copy we requested of the new ScrapKins Build-It Book Vol. 1, 12 Things You Can Make From Junk! Baby Storytimes introduce the sounds and rhythms of language to our youngest library users ages 0-2. Nursery rhymes, songs, and the simplest of stories build a foundation for a lifelong love of books and reading. Parents and caregivers should plan on participating with their children in these Storytimes. Reservations are required.
